However, I've heard a couple complaints now about the "lady" in question being Dame May Whitty rather than Margaret Lockwood, and I have to say I don't really understand the objection.

So, in my defense: since Dame May Whitty isn't really built up as anything important until she [spoiler alert] vanishes, we consciously decided that it would give too much away to put her on the cover. Also, considering Margaret Lockwood's character is definitely the main character of the film, putting her on the cover seems to me no more inappropriate than putting Ben Gazzara on the cover of The Killing of a Chinese Bookie or Jeanne Moreau on the cover of Jules & Jim, whether they're directly referenced by the title or not.

But, y'know, to each his own, I suppose. Feel free to slip the old packaging into the new amaray, if you prefer. Hopefully you'll like the next one.

and macguffin, thanks for the high praise, as always.Eric Skillmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06457581438691667177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087336294557920557.post-60601119657836483402007-10-05T11:21:00.000-05:002007-10-05T11:21:00.000-05:00(In fact... the "lady" in the title is not Margare...(In fact... the "lady" in the title is not Margaret Lockwood but Dame May Whitty)Nunohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16986841903308254567noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087336294557920557.post-90467524235963460822007-10-05T11:18:00.000-05:002007-10-05T11:18:00.000-05:00This is a real disappointment... Haven't seen The Trouble with Harry, but I'm with you on the lighter Hitchcock, so I'll have to check it out.

I've also recently developed an appreciation for the screenwriters of The Lady Vanishes, Sidney Gilliat and Frank Launder. I had a chance to see a film they wrote and co-directed, Millions Like Us, at Telluride this year, and I loved that, too. (It also features a few Charters and Calidcott cameos.) Not to mention Gilliat's Green for Danger...Eric Skillmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06457581438691667177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087336294557920557.post-10436541433889565902007-09-29T11:11:00.000-05:002007-09-29T11:11:00.000-05:00Glad to see you're back! I love the light, funny side of Hitch, as evidenced by "The Trouble With Harry" being my favorite.Ed Howardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18014222247676090467noreply@blogger.com
